Andy Murray lands first silverware since retiring from tennis as he honours late friend

0 13

ANDY MURRAY got his hands on his first piece of silverware since retiring from tennis as he paid tribute to late friend and colleague on the golf course.

The 37-year-old Scot was taking part in the first annual British Tennis Journalists’ Association Mike Dickson golf day at Hanbury Manor.

It’s been organised to pay tribute to revered late tennis writer Mike Dickson, who passed away suddenly last January whilst working at the Australian Open.

A touchstone throughout the Scot’s career in tennis, it was fitting that the 37-year-old should be the first recipient of the trophy.

He’s been getting plenty of practice in on the golf course since bidding farewell to tennis at the Olympics – not to mention that emotional send off from Wimbledon before that.

The BTJA wrote on X: “Thanks to everyone who joined us at Hanbury Manor yesterday for the first BTJA Mike Dickson Golf Day, supported by @InfluenceSports.

“Well done to our winner @andy_murray on claiming the first trophy of his golfing career.

“Think there are many more to come by the looks of it…”

In addition to the golf course, the Scot has his hands full in retirement bringing up his young family and with his many business interests.

We told you how he plans to create a new restaurant at his luxury five-star hotel.

The double Wimbledon champion, 37, wants to build a new dining space for guests at Cromlix House near Dunblane.

Murray and wife Kim want a new 80 cover restaurant which would replace the current eatery known as The Glasshouse.

It would form an extension to the C-listed Victorian mansion with views over the hotel’s lawns through huge glass windows along a new terraced area.

The Glasshouse would be retained under the move but turned into a space for afternoon teas and private events.

Plans submitted to Stirling Council reveal Murray would also add three new ground floor bedrooms to the hotel within the main building.
