Sports Briefs: Redwood’s Marotto, MC’s Mosher to vie for tennis singles title

Top-seeded Jordan Marotto from Redwood High and No. 3 seed Maya Mosher of Marin Catholic have a date to compete for the MCAL girls tennis singles crown on Wednesday.

Marotto advanced past The Branson School’s Audrey Gilmor, the tournament’s fourth seed, 6-4, 6-0 in Tuesday’s semifinals. Meanwhile, Mosher rebounded against No. 2 seed Katie Warrin of Branson, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Gilmor and Warrin will face each other for third place.

The MCAL’s top two doubles team will meet in Wednesday’s final, and the championship will go to a Redwood High duo, it’s just a question of which one. The tournament’s top seed, Annesley Krawitt and Ella Povio of Redwood, will face No. 2 seed Lindsey Reed and Gwenn Ricordel, also from Redwood, after both pairs earned solid semifinal wins Tuesday.

Krawitt and Povio defeated Tam’s Amelie Stoker and Sophia Tiemens, 6-3, 6-1, to secure a title shot. Nearby, Redwood’s Reed and Ricordel posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over San Marin’s Catania Dekeyrel and Aashna Selvaraj.

The pairs from San Marin and Tam will play for third place. The first and third-place matches for singles and doubles are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Novato High.

Men’s water polo

Archie Williams High grads Quinn and Dylan Woodhead both added their scoring touch as Team USA won its second game in a row at the Pan American Games in Chile with a 28-9 victory over Puerto Rico on Tuesday.

Quinn Woodhead scored twice, while Dylan added on goal for Team USA.

Team USA opened the tournament Monday with a 30-2 victory over Mexico., with Quinn Woodhead scoring five goals and Dylan netting three goals. The Americans are scheduled to play Brazil on Wednesday.
