Jessica Pegula defeated Liudmila Samsonova in a straight-sets 6-1, 6-0 victory on Sunday to capture the 2023 National Bank Open women’s singles title.
Pegula, a native of Buffalo, N.Y., is the first American to win the event since Serena Williams in 2013.
Samsonova played her semifinal earlier on Sunday, defeating third-ranked Elena Rybakina 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.
