[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis Season Closes in GPAC Semis

Doane Women's Tennis closed out their season by going 1-1 in the GPAC Tournament. The Tigers defeated Hastings, 5-0, before a tough loss for the second-straight year to Morningside, 4-3. Doane finishes the year with a 12-9 record. This year's senior class took a team that went 3-12 their freshman year to 26 wins the past two years and a conference title.

In their match against Hastings, the Tigers took their first point of the match by winning a pair of doubles matches. Doane then took the top four singles matches to pick up the win. The Tigers put together an impressive effort in singles play.

Ava Macke (SR/Omaha, Neb.) won 6-1, 6-0, at 1-singles while Liz van der Torre (JR/Greeley, Colo.) won 6-2, 6-0, at 2-singles. Ashlyn Kucera (FR/Grand Island, Neb.) picked up a 6-0, 6-1, win at 3-singles and Nina Ngo (JR/Crete, Neb.) won at 4-singles, 6-1, 6-1.

Morningside jumped out early in the semifinal match by winning the doubles point. Macke won her singles match, 6-4, 6-0. Kucera came from behind to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, and Ngo won 6-3, 6-4. Morningside took 5-singles and 6-singles, which left the match tied with one contest still on the court, 2-singles. In a three-set battle, Morningside was able to win in a tie-break to advance to the GPAC Championship.
