[Men's Tennis] Men's Tennis Downed in GPAC Championship
Doane Men's Tennis advanced to the GPAC Championship match before their season came to a close on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers defeated Concordia, 4-1, in the GPAC Semifinals but fell to Midland in the championship match, 4-0. Doane closes the season with a 12-7 record.
Against Concordia, the Tigers won two of the three doubles matches to take the first team point. The team of Jorge Chevez (SR/Panama City, Panama) and Esteban Gutierrez (SO/Panama City, Panama) won 6-4 at 1-doubles to clinch the point. Chevez followed with a 6-2, 7-5, win at 1-singles and Gutierrez won 6-2, 6-3, at 2-singles. Jose Purizaca (FR/Lima, Peru) won at 3-singles, 6-4, 6-2, as the Tigers advanced to the championship match.
On Saturday, Midland took the doubles point with wins at 2-doubles and 3-doubles by identical 6-1 scores. In singles play, Midland picked up wins at 2-singles, 3-singles, and 5-singles to pick up the points needed for the team win.
