[Men's Tennis] Tennis Closes out Season

A week ago, the Williamson tennis team traveled to Penn State Brandywine for a match they would eventually lose, 8-1.  Senior #6 singles player Harrison Sorman (FR/Havertown, PA) was the lone winner for Williamson in the match that day.

Fast forward six days and the Mechanics once again found themselves on the road and again taking on the same Penn State Brandywine club.  When all was said and done, Williamson once again found themselves on the short end of an 8-1 score, with Harrison Sorman again picking up the lone win for the Mechanics at #6 singles.

Though the final score was the same, each Williamson player was vastly improved from even just a week ago.  The second and third doubles teams of Nathan Yoder and Colin Weber (SR/Havertown, PA), and Jason Minch and Sorman, both lost hard-fought matches by identical scores of 8-4.  In singles play, five of the six singles players won games won games in each set.

Sorman was challenged in both sets but each time he responded to the challenge in impressive fashion.  The first set went to a tiebreaker.  After dropping the first point, Sorman then reeled off five straight points before eventually winning the tiebreaker, 7-3. 

In the second set, Sorman found himself down three times before coming back to win it 6-4 and gain the point for Williamson.

Williamson closed out its 2022 season at 1-3 but considering the team was vastly inexperienced and hadn't played a match in three years, head coach Jason Kutzura was pleased for by the effort of his players.

"We play in the toughest region in the country and the bulk of our guys had never played a high school match before, let alone a college match.  For them to continue to work hard and improve the way they did, I am very proud of them.  They were a fun group of guys to be able to coach."
