[Women's Tennis] Hawks Defeat Spirit to Continue Inspirational Run in GSAC Tourney

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The San Diego Christian College women's tennis team continue their outstanding run in the 2022 GSAC Championships, taking down the #24 Ottawa University – AZ Spirit 4-2 on Wednesday.

A hard-fought 2-1 victory in the doubles got San Diego Christian rolling. After Angelika Sidorov and Anthea Weiland fell to the Spirit's Careaga/Sotelo-Mena 2-6 in the one position, Tatiana Harvey and Franzi Niederle stood on the gas and took down OUAZ's Kostoff/Giulia 6-0 to even it up. Miliana Hrudka and Liza Hinrichs then claimed the opening team point for SDCC in the anchor position with a 6-4 win over Ottawa's Pritts/Salamon.

Tomi Felix-Chavez won the first singles match for the Hawks, taking down OUAZ's Cassidy Clark 6-3, 6-0. The San Diego Christian lead would be cut back to one when the Spirit's Sotelo-Mena defeated Hrudka 6-1, 6-1.

The battle would be drawn even at two apiece soon after when Ottawa's Careaga clipped Niederle 6-2, 6-4. It would then take the evenly paired teams two tiebreak sets in the final two deciding matches to determine the winner. San Diego Christian's Anthea Weiland and Tatiana Harvey would emerge victorious in both giving the Hawks the semifinal victory.

The victory earns San Diego Christian a spot in Thursday's final setting up a rematch of last year's championship match against the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds. First serve is at 9 am at the Surprise Tennis Center in Surprise, AZ.
