[Tennis] Tennis Takes on Morningside

Doane Men's Tennis remained as one of two undefeated teams in conference play on Saturday afternoon as they posted a 6-1 win at Morningside. The Tigers improved to 3-0 in GPAC play, sitting half a game behind Midland who is 4-0.

Doane swept doubles play in three competitive matches. Jorge Chevez (SR/Panama City, Panama) and Esteban Gutierrez (SO/Panama City, Panama) won 7-5 at 1-double. Jose Purizaca (FR/Lima, Peru) and Federico Infante (SO/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) won 6-4 at 2-doubles with Henrique Sakoda (SR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Sam Coy (SR/Lincoln, Neb.) winning 6-4 at 3-doubles.

In singles play, Doane won five of the matches in straight sets. Their lone loss came in a three-set match. Chevez, Purizaca, and Infante all won their matches by scores of 6-2, 6-3. 

Doane Women's Tennis suffered their first conference loss of the season as they fell to Morningside, 5-2. The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-1 in GPAC play, tied in the loss column with Morningside and Saint Mary. Midland remains the lone undefeated team at 4-0.

Morningside won two of the three doubles matches to earn the team point. Doane's win came at 1-doubles where Ava Macke (SR/Omaha, Neb.) and Liz van der Torre (JR/Greeley, Colo.) won 6-4.

In singles play, there were several close matches that could have swung either way but fell in the Mustangs favor. Macke won at 1-singles, 6-4, 6-2, and Ashlyn Kucera (FR/Grand Island, Neb.) won 6-4, 6-2 at 3-singles. At 2-singles, van der Torre was edged 4-6, 4-6, while Nina Ngo (JR/Crete, Neb.) and Payton Stalder (SR/Omaha, Neb.) were each defeated in three-set matches.
