[Tennis] Tennis Teams Sweep Northwestern

Doane Women's Tennis posted a shutout for the fourth time in their last five matches as they defeated Northwestern on Friday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa. The Tigers won 7-0.

The match opened with the Tigers earning the doubles point as they took two of the three doubles matches. Ava Macke (SR/Omaha, Neb.) and Liz van der Torre (JR/Greeley, Colo.) won 6-3 at 1-doubles while Ashlyn Kucera (FR/Grand Island, Neb.) and Kailyn Groski (JR/Papillion, Neb.) won 6-1 at 3-doubles.

In singles action, the Tigers swept through their opponents with two matches going to a third set. Kucera won 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in her match at 3-singles while Groski won her match 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) as the final set was played in a tie-break with the Tigers having clinched the team victory.

Doane Men's Tennis picked up a 6-1 win over Northwestern on Friday afternoon in Sioux City, Iowa, as the teams met on a neutral surface. In the victory over the Red Raiders, a Tiger career record was set.

In doubles play, the Tigers swept all three matches to take a 1-0 lead. The closest match came at 2-doubles where Jose Purizaca (FR/Lima, Peru) and Federico Infante (SO/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) picked up a 7-5 win.

Jorge Chevez (SR/Panama City, Panama) was a straight sets winner at 1-singles, picking up his 42nd career singles win in dual play. He stands alone at the top of the Doane record books for the modern era wins total. The Tigers also received straight-set wins from Esteban Gutierrez (SO/Panama City, Panama), Infante, Henrique Sakoda (SR/Sao Paulo, Brazil), and Sam Coy (SR/Lincoln, Neb.), with Northwestern's lone win coming in a three-set match.
