[Tennis] Tennis Sweeps Martin Luther
Doane hosted Martin Luther (Minn.) on Saturday in Crete in men's and women's tennis action. The Tigers won both matches by a 7-0 decision over the Knights.
In men's action, Jorge Chevez (SR/Panama City, Panama) won his 1-singles match, 6-0, 6-0, to pick up his 39th career win and move into second on the team record books (since the restart of the program in the early 1990s). Doane won all singles matches in straight sets with victories also going to Esteban Gutierrez (SO/Panama City, Panama), Jose Purizaca (FR/Lima, Peru), Henrique Sakoda (SR/Sao Paulo, Brazil), Sam Coy (SR/Lincoln, Neb.), and Milo Ciotti (JR/Lincoln, Neb.).
In doubles action, Sakoda and Coy teamed to win at 1-doubles. Federico Infante (SO/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) teamed with Josh Grosvenor (SO/Grand Island, Neb.) to win 6-4 at 2-doubles and Logan Bornemeier (JR/Lincoln, Neb.) partnered with Brandon Linhart (JR/Omaha, Neb.) to win 6-2 at 3-doubles.
In women's action, the Tigers won in straight sets in all matches while limiting the Knights to 14 game wins. In doubles, the team of Ava Macke (SR/Omaha, Neb.) and Liz van der Torre (JR/Greeley, Colo.) won 6-0 at 1-doubles. Payton Stalder (SR/Omaha, Neb.) and Nina Ngo (JR/Crete, Neb.) won 6-1 at 2-doubles while Daniella Ruiz-Martinez (SR/Omaha, Neb.) teamed with Cierra Schwarzkopf (FR/Scottsbluff, Neb.) for a 6-3 win at 3-doubles.
In singles action, Amber Weston (SO/Mead, Colo.) won 6-0, 6-1, at 1-singles with Ashlyn Kucera (FR/Grand Island, Neb.) picking up a 6-1, 6-1 win at 2-singles. Stalder won at 3-singles, 6-0, 6-2, with Ngo winning 6-0, 6-0, at 4-singles. Ruiz-Martinez picked up a 6-0, 6-0, win at 5-singles and Kailyn Groski (JR/Papillion, Neb.) claimed a 7-5, 6-0, win at 6-singles.
