LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The #16 San Diego Christian College Hawks are off to a flying start in the 2022 GGC Spring Break Invitational Tournament in Georgia. On Tuesday, SDCC took down the #17 ranked William Woods University Owls 4-2 and upset the #9 Cardinal Stritch University Wolves 4-0 on Wednesday.

Tuesday

Usually strong in the double's competition, the Hawks showed slight signs of jet lag allowing the Owls to take two matches to claim the opening team point.

They found their feet soon after as Nick Neinhaus made quick work of his opponent 6-0, 6-1. Luis Hochenauer followed that win up with a 6-1, 6-4 thrashing of WWU's #3.

Chris Papa grabbed the third team point for SDCC with a 7-5, 6-2 straight sets win, and Julius Kaufmann wrapped up the 4-2 win with three-set victory.

Robin Van den Hoek was leading his opponent and Laurenz Grabia was engaged in a third set shootout when the clinch occurred.

Wednesday

The Hawks put in a near-flawless performance against the #9 Cardinal Stritch Wolves in their 4-0 win.

Coach Jim Bodor switched his doubles teams up a bit and it paid big dividends. The teams of Chris Papa/Luis Hochenauer and Nick Nienhaus/Julius Kaufmann each quickly beat their CSU counterparts by scores of 6-1. The third doubles match featuring Robin Van den Hoek/Laurenz Grabia was also well in hand at 4-2 when the point was clinched.

Chris Papa continued his long streak of straight-set singles wins while Nick Nienhaus and Robin Van den Hoek also dominated their opponents to go 2-0 in the tournament thus far.
