[Women's Tennis] No. 17 Women's Tennis Drops Season-Opener to Portland State, 4-1

RAMONA, Calif. – To kick off the season-opener for the No. 17 San Diego Christian College women's tennis team, their opponent was no cake-walk.

The Hawks played strong in singles but eventually dropped the match 4-1 against NCAA Div. 1 Portland State.

The Hawks were quickly erased in doubles with the Vikings taking No. 1 and No. 2 Doubles both by scores of 6-1 to earn the doubles point.

In singles, PSU took the first two matches in No. 5 and No. 6 Singles but the Hawks grabbed a point in No. 2 Singles. Liza Hinrichs defeated Emily Rees 7-5, 6-4 to bring the match to 3-1. Anthea Weiland eventually lost a tough 3-set match at No. 1 Singles 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 to give the Vikings the win.

The other two singles matches were left unfinished but were in their third sets. Liza Hrudka was winning her No. 3 Singles match 0-6, 7-6, 3-2 before the match was called. Tomi Felix-Chavez lost her first set 0-6 before taking the second 6-4. She was trailing 4-1 before her match was left unfinished.

The Hawks are back in play on Saturday as they travel to Point Loma. Doubles will start at 10 a.m.
