[Women's Tennis] Weiland Earns Sportsmanship Award at SD Veterans Tennis Classic
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Several members of the San Diego Christian College Hawks men's and women's tennis program participated in the inaugural San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic at the Skip & Cindy Hogan Tennis Center at the University of San Diego this past weekend.
In addition to SDCC, the tournament included teams from the University of San Diego, San Diego State University, UC San Diego and the United States Naval Academy and was created to celebrate San Diego's unique connection to the United States military.
In addition to the on-court competition, the event celebrated leadership and sportsmanship and we are proud to announce that San Diego Christian College's own, Anthea Weiland took home the Lt. Joseph R. Hunt Sportsmanship Award! Even with such a prestigious group of tennis players present, Anthea's positivity and work ethic set her apart. The SDCC freshman became a favorite of both the tournament officials and competitors alike. Coach Jim Bodor and the entire San Diego Christian College family would like to thank Anthea for representing us so well.
The award was named for Joseph R. Hunt, who left a promising collegiate tennis career at the University of Southern California on the eve of World War II and transferred to the US Naval Academy at Annapolis to serve his country.
