[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis Wraps up Falls Season in Minnesota

Doane Women's Tennis traveled to Minnesota for the first time on record as they faced NCAA D2 Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday. The host squad picked up the doubles point in the match, proving to be the deciding factor as the teams split the six singles matches. The Mustangs won 4-3.

In doubles play, Amber Weston (SO/Mead, Colo.) and Mariane Lima (JR/Belo Horizonte, Brazil) dropped their match at No. 1, 6-3. Ava Macke (SR/Omaha, Neb.) and Liz van der Torre (JR/Greeley, Colo.) were edged out, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles. The No. 3 doubles match went to Ashlyn Kucera (FR/Grand Island, Neb.) and Brylee Lauby (SR/Lexington, Neb.), 7-5.

In singles action, Lima won at No. 2, 7-5 and 6-4. Macke won at No. 3 singles, 6-4 and 7-5. Lauby won at No. 6 singles, 6-1 and 6-3. van der Torre and Kucera lost by identical scores at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, 3-6 and 4-6. Weston was edged in a tie-break at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5).

The match wrapped up the fall portion of the team's schedule. They will return to action in February.

Lauby finished out her career with two victories as she is set to graduate in December. She plans to enter the police academy in 2022.
