It is an agonising blow for the 30-year-old.

A tournament statement confirmed: “The Referee’s Office has advised that Johanna Konta (GBR) has been withdrawn from the Ladies’ Singles Draw, having been classified as a close contact of a positive test for COVID-19.

“In line with government legislation, Konta is required to spend ten days in self isolation.”

Konta reached the semi-finals of the ladies’ singles at SW19 in 2017.

She has struggled for form and fitness over the last 18 months.

And the star revealed just last week that she may have to manage her long-running knee problem for the rest of her career.

But she had high hopes for this year’s Championships.

That was after winning her fourth WTA title just two weeks ago at the Nottingham Open.

World No27 Konta, who had opted not to play in the doubles or mixed doubles, was due to play Czech ace Katerina Siniakova in the first round on Tuesday.

She will be replaced by Yafan Wang.

The Chinese ace had lost in the final of Wimbledon qualifying on Thursday to Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine.
