[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis Wins First GPAC Title

The 2021 Doane Women's Tennis etched their names into Doane Athletics history on Tuesday as they defeated Mount Marty, 7-0, and became the first women's tennis team to win a conference title. The Tigers finished 6-1 in conference play and in a three-way tie for first. Doane won the tie-breaker in the tie and will be the No. 1 seed in the GPAC Tournament.

Doane actually had the match won after the first serve as the Lancers were short-handed and had to forfeit three spots in the singles lineup and two of the doubles matches. In the lone doubles match, Mount Marty won a 6-4 decision over Amber Weston (FR/Mead, Colo.) and Brylee Lauby (JR/Lexington, Neb.) with Doane receiving forfeits at 2 and 3-doubles. However, in singles action, the Tigers posted three straight-set victories to record the team shutout.

Weston won 6-0 and 7-6 (7-3) at 1-singles. Ava Macke (JR/Omaha, Neb.) claimed a 6-1 and 6-1 decision at 2-singles. Lauby won 7-6 (7-3) and 6-0 at 3-singles to close out the win. Liz van der Torre (SO/Greeley, Colo.), Huong Ngo (SO/Crete, Neb.), and Makayla Rice (SR/Lincoln, Neb.) received forfeit wins.

Next up for the Tigers will be the GPAC Tournament on April 30. Doane will receive a first-round bye and will take on the winner of College of Saint Mary and Midland at 4:30 in the semifinals.
