SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The No. 12 ranked San Diego Christian College Hawks lost an exciting GSAC Women's Tennis Tournament final 3-4 to cross-town rival University of Saint Katherine Firebirds Thursday.

After having started the day with a 45-minute rain delay, it took the Hawks and the Firebirds over 3 1/2 hours to crown a victor.  The match began with San Diego Christian winning the opening doubles point. Tomi Felix and Barbara Damiani won their match 6-2 and Angela Rinaldi and Valentina Sottile won 6-3 and SDCC appeared to be cruising.

Singles play became an epic battle when, Saint Katherine tied it up quickly taking the #2 singles 6-2, 6-2. The Hawks fought back to grab the next two points, going up 3-1 as Tatiana Harvey and Tomi Felix both took down their Firebird opponents. In the #4 and #5 spots.

Unfortunately for SDCC, those would be the final points they would log. The Firebirds would take the #6 and #1 matches as well as the deciding #3 match.

The Hawks were still crowned the regular-season champions on Wednesday, going undefeated in the conference. Despite losing the GSAC tourney, the Hawks should still receive a berth in the upcoming NAIA Women's National Championship on May 18-22 based on their national ranking.
