[Tennis] Hawks Tennis Wraps Up Undefeated GSAC Season With Sweep of HIU

FULLERTON, Calif. – The No. 12 Hawk women (11-0) and the No. 13 Hawk men (9-0) completed their GSAC schedule without losing a match. Both teams wrapped the regular season on Saturday with definitive 4-0 thrashings of the Hope International Royals.

Women's Match

San Diego Christian College grabbed the doubles point with a sweep. The Hawk pairings of Valentina Sottile/Angela Rinaldi and Barbara Damiani/Tomi Felix both won their matches 6-3 while Franzi Neiderle/Tatiana Harvey won by default.

The singles competition went much as the doubles with Rinaldi, Damiani, Sottile, Felix, and Harvey all cruising to straight-set victories and Angelika Sidorov winning by default.

As the number one seed in the GSAC Championship tournament, the Hawks have earned a first-round bye and will take on the winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal matchup between Westmont College and Arizona Christian on Wednesday at 8 am.

Men's Match

Just like the women, the Hawk men swept the Royals in straight sets. Chris Papa, Nick Nienhaus, Ivan Smith, Robin Van Den Hoek, David Samardzija, and Paul Niederle took down Hope International by a combined 72-16 without losing a set.

Also the number one seed in the GSAC Championship, SDCC will move straight to the semifinals and take on the winner of Arizona Christian and Westmont College on Wednesday, April 21 at 11 am.
