[Men's Tennis] SDCC Advance To GSAC Championship Final with 4-0 Victory Over Westmont
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – By completing the GSAC conference season with a 9-0 record, the No. 13 Hawks men skipped Tuesday's quarterfinals with a bye as the number one seed. SDCC swept Wednesday's semifinal match against the Westmont Warriors with a resounding 4-0 victory.
The Hawks captured the opening doubles point with a 2-0 win. The pairings of Nick Nienhaus/Robin Van Den Hoek and David Samardzija/Julius Kaufmann both won by scores of 6-1. The reigning men's doubles national champions, Chris Papa and Ivan Smith were up 5-3 when the doubles point was clinched.
In singles, David Samardzija earned the Hawks' first point with a quick 6-0, 6-1 win. Newly crowned GSAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, Chris Papa earned the second singles point with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Nick Nienhaus clinched the match for San Diego Christian with a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
The Hawks will take on Ottawa University – AZ in the GSAC championship final on Thursday. The match will begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of the women's championship.
