[Men's Tennis] Men's Tennis Split in Kansas
Doane Men's Tennis traveled to North Newton, Kansas, on Tuesday for a pair of matches as they played the host squad from Bethel as well as Kansas Wesleyan, in a match moved up a day due to the weather forecast for Wednesday.
In the opening match, Doane swept through Kansas Wesleyan with a 7-0 victory over the Coyotes. In the final match, the final score did not indicate how close Doane and Bethel's match was. The Threshers won 6-1 on the scoreboard with a competitive match in seven of the nine played.
Doane took down the Coyotes in doubles action, winning 18 of the 19 games played. Singles action was more competitive with one match going to a tie-break and several others being decided by one or two breaks of serve.

Against the Threshers, Doane dropped two matches that were decided in tie-breaks with four other matches dropped by a service break difference in each set. The key battle came at No. 1 singles and doubles where Doane pulled off two big victories. Chevez, ranked No. 3 in the region, defeated Michael Cech, ranked No. 7 in the region. In doubles, the team of Chevez and Gutierrez (unranked) defeated the No. 5 team in the region of Cech and Nolan Schrader.
