[Men's Tennis] Men's Tennis Downed by D2 Augustana

Doane Men's Tennis took on NCAA Division II Augustana (S.D.) on Saturday afternoon at the Fremont YMCA. The teams played singles matches first with the Vikings taking four of the six matches. With Augustana having secured the team win, doubles matches were not played.

Through four matches, the duel was tied 2-2. Augustana's North Knewtson picked up a 6-1, 6-0, win at No. 5 over Donat Beke (FR/Algyo, Hungary). Doane came back to tie the match with a win at No. 4 as Henrique Sakoda (JR/Sao Paulo, Brazil) won 6-2, 2-0 (default) over Tyson Cowger. The Vikings took the match at No. 3 with Eden Mrozek defeating Sam Coy (JR/Lincoln, Neb.), 6-2, 6-3. Jorge Chevez (JR/Panama City, Panama) tied the match at 2-all by winning at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2, over Cade Damgaard. At No. 2 singles, the match went to a tie-break and fell the Vikings way as Jakson Stoutamire edged out Esteban Gutierrez (FR/Panama City, Panama), 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-7). Augustana's Tory Shafer closed out the match with a 6-4, 6-3, win at No. 6 single over Parker Hansen (JR/Norfolk, Neb.).

The Tigers will play a men's/women's doubleheader on Saturday, March 6, in Liberty, Mo., as they take on Newman University. The match will be the first of two against NCAA Division II opponents on the weekend.
