0
James Waterson reports the weekend’s tennis news. Roger Federer beat Kei Nishikori 6-1, 6-3 to win the Swiss Indoors in his hometown, Basel, on Sunday. The win gave Federer his first title since 10 months ago, when he won in Doha. Spain’s Marcel Granollers won his first hard court title in Valencia, and Ana Ivanovic defended her title at the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions in Bali, Indonesia. Meanwhile, Petra Kvitova lead the Czech Republic to their first Fed Cup title since 1988 when they beat Russia 3-2 in Moscow. She defeated Maria Kirilenko and Svetlana Kuznetsova to contribute two of her country’s three wins, and the doubles team of Kveta Peschke and Lucie Hradecka clinched the tie. Finally, six of the game’s top players are vying for a spot at the ATP World Tour Finals at the Paris Masters tournament this week.
