0 5

The 2020 Tiburon Challenger tennis tournament, originally scheduled for Sept. 28 through Oct. 4, was officially canceled by organizers on Tuesday as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Organizers made the difficult decision in the best interest of the health of players, fans, tournament volunteers and staff,” the Tiburon Peninsula Club wrote in a press release.

With the 2020 edition of the ATP Challenger Tour event canceled, local organizers shift their attention to the 2021 event and will announce a new date “at an appropriate time.”

The tournament has been held annually in Tiburon since 2009. American Tommy Paul won the event in 2019. Past winners include Americans Sam Querrey and Jack sock and Croatian Ivo Karlovic.

  • The 44th Annual Marin Championships, a Seniors Super Category II tournament originally set for June 3-7 at Mill Valley Tennis Club, have also been canceled. The 45th annual event is currently scheduled for June 2021.
