Watch tennis star Pablo Cuevas’ insanely sarcastic performance after being told off for lack of effort in ATP Cup

TENNIS star Pablo Cuevas was given a warning from the umpire in an ATP Cup tie for a “lack of effort” – then responded in the most sarcastic of manners.

The 34-year-old was representing Uruguay in a match against Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili.

He was trailing 5-4 in the opening set out in Australia when he decided to respond to the warning by leaping around.

After making several exaggerated gestures, the Uruguayan then received a code violation.

This led to him storming off court, packing his bags and heading for the exit.

With boos ringing out in the Perth Arena, his opponent Basilashvili ran after Cuevas and managed to persuade him to complete the match.

It almost backfired for the Georgian who after winning the first set 6-4, was smashed in the second 6-1 by the world No41.

But Basilashvili managed to regain his composure int he face of the most unusual of behaviour to win the decider 6-4.

Both Georgia and Uruguay were already eliminated from this year’s competition.

The result meant Georgia clinched their first cup win, defeating Uruguay 2-1 after three rubbers.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal maintained their perfect records at the ATP Cup while Argentina, Canada and Belgium all booked their spots in the quarter-finals.

Serbia had already qualified prior to their 2-1 victory over Chile in Brisbane, where Djokovic defeated Cristian Garin 6-3 6-3 to make it three singles victories and one doubles win so far.

Spain finished the group stage with a perfect 9-0 record after beating previously unbeaten Japan in Perth.
