Sports briefs: Tam girls tennis finally eliminated from postseason

No. 6 St. Francis upset the third-seeded Tam girls tennis team, 6-1, in the NorCal quarterfinals in Sacramento. The loss ends the Red-tailed Hawks’ season after they captured MCAL and NCS titles during a lengthy postseason run. Jamilah Karah won Tam’s lone match of the morning at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3. Gen Durham dropped a tight one to Samantha Sunntag at No. 3 singles, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.
“It has been a special season,” Tam coach Bill Washauer said.
Women’s volleyball
Dominican began its last road trip of the season with a 3-0 loss to Biola at Chase Gymnasium.
Rebecca Smith paced the Penguins (3-23, 3-18 PacWest) with five kills, 10 assists and eight digs. Hana Wyles also totaled 17 digs and added a service ace for Dominican.
