Canada’s Vasek Pospisil has advanced into the second round of the U.S. Open after a 4-6, 7-5, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 win over ninth-seeded Karen Khachanov of Russia on Tuesday.
Pospisil is ranked No. 216 in the world and hasn’t won since last October after undergoing back surgery earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., defeated No. 18 seed and fellow Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-1, 6-1, 6-4 in their first round match.
