It’s official: Canada’s Bianca Andreescu is the 14th-ranked player on the WTA Tour.
The 19-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., jumped 13 spots on the women’s tennis leaderboard after becoming the first Canadian to capture the Rogers Cup in 50 years on Sunday.
Andreescu is also the top-ranked Canadian overall, surpassing Milos Raonic, also of Thornhill (20), Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime (21), Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., (34) and Eugenie Bouchard of Westmount, Que. (114).
Andreescu withdrew from the Western and Southern Open late Sunday night, but is expected to return to the court at the U.S. Open in two weeks.
