Play suddenly suspended on Court 12 as ambulance called to Wimbledon for woman, 60, needing resuscitating
PLAY was suddenly suspended on Court 12 at Wimbledon as a woman, 60, collapsed in the stands and needed resuscitating.
The match between Jan-Lennard Struff – the 33rd seed – and Mikhail Kukushkin was evenly poised in the fourth set when the drama unfolded.
The lady feinted in the heat at Wimbledon but after the use of a defibrillator was talking as she was stretchered away and taken to hospital.
Fans were pictured flooding out of the stands, which is one of smaller outside showcourts here at the All England Club.
The players remained on the court initially, with Kukushkin receiving some treatment from the trainer.
But after around five minutes they too picked up their bags and headed out.
An ambulance then entered the All England Club grounds to provide urgent help.
At around 4.40pm, Wimbledon announced that play would resume at 5pm on the court, which is at the south end of the club.
And five minutes before that, the crowds started to come back in and fill the stands of the arena to see the conclusion of a tight match which went on to win Kukushkin 6-3 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 7-5.

A Wimbledon statement read: “A 60-year-old female collapsed while watching tennis on Court 12.
“She received immediate medical attention and was successfully resuscitated before being transported to a local hospital.
“Play was suspended and the court evacuated to give appropriate space for treatment.”
