Andy Murray to make remarkable tennis return at Queen’s Club as former world No 1 steps up Wimbledon bid
ANDY MURRAY will make a remarkable return to tennis by playing men’s doubles at Queen’s.
And, provided his body holds up, this means the Scot could play at Wimbledon next month – despite thinking his career was over in January.
A source close to the tournament confirmed he will play at the grass-court event in south-west London.
The former world No 1 is expected to pair up with Spain’s Feliciano Lopez at Queen’s Club from Monday June 17 – the tournament where he has a long-term deal to play annually.
The last time Murray played doubles on the ATP Tour was with Dan Evans at the 2017 Indian Wells – where, coincidentally, they beat Lopez in the first round.
Murray underwent a career-saving hip resurfacing operation in January shortly after losing in the Australian Open first round.
The 32-year-old feared in Melbourne that his career was over and he revealed he was in daily pain over his troublesome hip, which had plagued him since the 2017 French Open.
After going under the knife, Murray admitted he faced a race-against-time to be fit again for this summer’s Wimbledon and refused to give a timescale on his return.
However, videos have emerged in recent days of him serving and moving about a grass-court.
And the fact he has agreed to play again at Queens suggests he is ahead of schedule in terms of his recovery.

Murray, who has tumbled to 213 in the world rankings, has harboured ambitious to play singles again and challenge the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer.
Nobody has ever had this injury and played singles again at the highest level.
American Bob Bryan, 41, underwent the same procedure and has made a return to doubles with his brother Mike.
