[Women's Tennis] No. 16 Hawks Fall to No. 13 Westmont in GSAC Tournament Final

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. — In the two times the SDC women's tennis team and Westmont have met, the Warriors defeated the Hawks 5-4.

This time, the Warriors had more success at the most crucial point of the season.

Westmont defeated SDC 5-1 in the GSAC Tournament Final giving the Warriors an automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament. The Hawks will have to wait for a possible at-large bid.

The Hawks trailed from the get-go. Westmont scored the first point of the match from the No. 3 Doubles position. Tatiana Harvey and Brianna Leigh-Pink dropped the 8-4 contest but Aleksandra Emelianova and Valentina Sotile picked them up with a lengthy 9-7 win at No. 2 Doubles. Tied 1-1, the No. 1 Doubles team in the nation was set with the task at grasping the second point for the Hawks.

Sarah Urbanek and Nadine Geschke hadn't lost a doubles match all season until Thursday. Urbanek and Geschke were finally beaten by Cade Pierson and Cheung-Damonte 8-6. SDC was looking at a 2-1 deficit after doubles play.

Playing to five, the Warriors were able to get the next three points easily from the Hawks. Westmont won at No. 4-6 Singles.

SDC finishes the year with a 16-3 record, with all three losses to the Warriors.
