Serena Williams might have mistakenly revealed the gender of Meghan Markle’s baby
Serena Williams might have been a gender reveal party of one with a slip-up that might have exposed that William and Meghan Markle are having … a girl!
Of course, the prince and the duchess have said that they themselves don’t know the gender of their first child, but a lot of people — particularly bookies — are putting a lot of credence into Williams’ slip of the tongue.
Williams was discussing motherhood with E! News when she used the pronoun “she” in speaking about an expectant friend’s child. Many believe the tennis great was speaking about her pal Markle, according to People.
“My friend is pregnant,” Williams told E! News, “and she was like, ‘My kid’s gonna do this,’ (and) I just looked at her like, ‘No, she’s not. No, you’re not.’ She was like, ‘I need to talk to you about tips,’ because, yes, I had all of those high expectations.”
Williams and Markle have been close friends for nearly a decade, and Williams and husband Alexis Ohanian were among the guests at the Royal couple’s wedding.
Bookmakers in the United Kingdom connected the tentative dots, and the payoff amount to those willing to put money on the baby being girl just dropped.
“Royal punters are looking for any slip-ups and Serena might just have given them one,” a spokesperson with Ladbrokes told People. “We’re taking no chances and have slashed odds on a girl as a result.”
Williams and Markle, both 37, met at the Super Bowl in 2010. In addition to attending Markle’s wedding, Williams also helped plan her friend’s baby shower in New York in February.
“It was all baby talk,” one shower attendee said. “She was getting tons of advice.”
Williams, who gave birth to daughter Alexis Olympia in 2017, probably doled out a few tips.
“She’ll be the best mom, for sure,” Williams said of Markle in an interview with E! News.
