[Men's Tennis] Eagles Win Sixth Straight, Defeat Georgetown 6-3
GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Asbury University men's tennis team continued its winning ways on Tuesday with a 6-3 victory at Georgetown College.
AU has now won six straight matches and are 8-3 overall on the year. The Eagles will look to make it seven in a row on Friday as they host Ohio Christian at 2 PM.
Asbury held a 2-1 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Aquille Trotman/ Choopat Subimolstean and Joshua Turnquest/Felipe Penuela both rolled to easy 8-1 and 8-2 victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
However, Shane Mustor/ Luiz Gustavo Hartkopf were upended 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
AU managed to win four of the six singles matches to preserve the victory, but it wasn't an easy feat.
Turnquest dropped his match at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-3, and Julian Tellez fell at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-4.
The Eagles were able to claim the rest of the singles matches. Suvimolstean won again at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win, and Hartkopf held off his opponent 6-2, 6-4.
Trotman, the RSC men's Tennis Player of the Week, cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles. Trotman has dropped just one match this season in total.
Penuela pulled out a tough 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 third-set tiebreaker victory to close out the match for Asbury.
