[Women's Tennis] No. 13 Women's Tennis Splits GSAC Home Openers

RAMONA, Calif. — Facing their toughest test of the season, and opening GSAC play at home, the Hawks fell to No. 14 Westmont on Friday before salvaging a GSAC split with a win against GSAC Associate member Marymount on Saturday.

SDC lost a tough 5-4 battle against the Warriors before winning the Saturday match against the Mariners 8-1.

The Hawks looked good after doubles play. The No. 1 team in the nation, Sarah Urbanek and Nadine Geschke won their No. 1 Doubles match 8-5. Aleksandra Emelianova and Valentina Sotile won 8-6 but the Hawks dropped the No. 3 Doubles match in extras, 9-7.

Urbanek won her singles match in three, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Emelianova won her No. 3 Singles match in three sets also, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 but that's all the Hawks got in singles play.

Against Marymount, SDC had their way sweeping doubles play. Both No. 1 and No. 2 Doubles won 8-3 after SDC won at No. 3 Doubles by default.

Leading 3-0 after doubles, the Hawks again got a gift at No. 6 Singles as Brianna Leigh-Pink won by default. SDC had little issues winning the rest of the singles matches except for No. 3 Singles. Geschke had to retire for the only match loss.

The Hawks will host William Jessup on Saturday, weather permitting.
