[Tennis] Tennis Teams Send Five to ITA Regional Semifinals

MARION, Ind. – More than a quarter of the main bracket semifinal competitors will feature Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday. Diego Freire and Lizzie Bauss are still in the singles main draw semifinals while doubles teams of Eli Steiner/Grant Esposito, Lizzie Bauss/Alex Mella, and Thewuni Devaraja/Maddie Bemisderfer compete in the doubles main draw semifinals on Saturday.

 

Men's Singles - Main Bracket 

Grant Esposito lost to the No. 3 seed 6-2, 7-5 in the Sweet 16.
Eli Steiner beat the No. 15 seed 6-4, 6-4 in the Sweet 16, but lost to the No. 6 seed 6-4, 7-5 in the Elite 8
Diego Freire won both matches today to advance to the Semifinals

 

Men's Singles - Consolation Bracket

Riley Worland won two matches today to advance to the Semifinals of the Consolation Bracket. 

 

Women's Singles - Main Bracket

Lizzie Bauss won both matches today to advance to the Semifinals.
Alex Mella beat No. 14 seed 2-6, 6-1, 11-9 in the Sweet 16, but lost to the No. 5 seed 6-3, 2-6, 10-5 in the Elite 8
Maddie Bemisderfer beat the No. 13 seed 6-4, 6-3 in the Sweet 16, but lost to the No. 11 seed 6-3, 7-5
Marissa Klein beat the No. 8 seed 6-3, 6-1 in the Sweet 16, but lost to teammate Lizzie Bauss in the Elite 8. 
Thewuni Devaraja lost in the Sweet 16 6-4, 6-1 to the No. 10 seed.

 

Men's Doubles - Main Bracket

Diego Freire and Riley Worland lost 8-4 to the No. 1 seed in the Sweet 16.
Eli Steiner and Grant Esposito won both matches today to advance to the Semifinals. 

 

Men's Doubles - Consolation Bracket

Parker Kalis and John Gerard won their first match today 8-4 but lost in the Elite 8.
Grant Yager and Tyler Abbott won both of their matches today to advance to the Semifinals. 

 

Women's Doubles - Main Bracket

Marissa Klein and Laura Moore lost in the Sweet 16, 8-5
Thewuni Devaraja and Maddie Bemisderfer won both of their matches today to advance to the Semifinals.
