[Tennis] Tennis Teams Find Success during Opening Day of ITA Regional

MARION, Ind. – Indiana Wesleyan University is the host site for the 2018 ITA Midwest Regional Tennis Tournaments which has brought in 170 tennis players from the Midwest.


MEN’S SINGLES

Eli Steiner, Diego Freire, and Grant Esposito all advanced to the Sweet 16 with a pair of wins on Thursday. Steiner is the No. 2 seed in the tournament, Freire is the No. 5 seed, and Esposito ranks No. 14.


WOMEN’S SINGLES

The Wildcats boast 5 players in the Sweet 16. No. 1 Lizzie Bauss, No. 3 Alex Mella, No. 4 Maddie Bemisderfer, No. 7 Thewuni Devaraja, and No. 9 Marissa Klein all won two matches on Thursday to move on to Friday play.


MEN’S DOUBLES

The 32-team doubles tournament is down to 16 teams, two from Indiana Wesleyan. No. 2 seed Eli Steiner and Grant Esposito and the duo of Diego Freire and Riley Worland could play up to two more matches on Friday.


WOMEN’S DOUBLES

Three Wildcat doubles teams comprise the final 16 in the women’s doubles tournament. Top-seed and defending champions Lizzie Bauss and Alex Mella, No. 2 Thewuni Devaraja and Maddie Bemisderfer, and No. 7 Marissa Klein and Laura Moore all won on Thursday in the opening round.
