15th-seed Stanford women win NCAA tennis title

0

The Stanford women’s tennis team matched its own record as the lowest seed to ever win the NCAA championship, beating Vanderbilt 4-3 in the final in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Tuesday.

Five years ago, Stanford entered the tournament as a No. 12 seed and won the title — at the time the lowest seed to accomplish the feat. The Cardinal broke that record by winning the championship in 2016 as the 15th seed.

Now, they’ve done it again. Stanford entered the tournament as a No. 15 seed, but a hot one. The Cardinal (24-3) started 4-3, then never lost again, finishing on a 20-match win streak.
