[Men's Tennis] Alfonso Martinez repeats at CCAC First Team All-Conference

CHICAGO --- Alfonso Martinez was the lone member of the Olivet Nazarene Univeristy men's tennis team to receive a postseason honor, returning to the First Team All-Conference team. Cardinal Stritch University ran away with the 2018 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's tennis regular-season and tournament titles and on Wednesday morning the Wolves claimed better than half the postseason honors.  In all, they took home nine of the 17 awards.

Three Cardinal Stritch players gained first-team all-conference status, while four garnered a spot on the six-member doubles team.  The Wolves also brought home two of the top honors withAgustin Gascia (Buenos Aires, Argentina)being named the CCAC Player of the Year and head coachMark Goldintabbed as the league's Coach of the Year.

Gascia, just a sophomore, went undefeated in conference play at both the top singles and doubles positions this year.  He also earned the highest-ever singles ranking in Wolves' history with his No. 5 billing, while checking in as high as No. 7 on the doubles side.

Goldin was named the CCAC Coach of the Year for the third straight time after leading the Wolves to both crowns.

Joining Gascia on the conference's seven-member singles squad were teammatesNiccolo Rossi (Guayaquil, Ecuador)andFabio Perasso (Genova, Italy), who completed his sweep of four straight years on the first team.  Also selected was Olivet Nazarene University'sAlfonso Martinez (Madrid, Spain), who repeated on the first team like Gascia.

The other first-team picks were Judson'sChris Veltkamp (Streamwood, Ill.)andElisha Hougland (Hampshire, Ill.)and Roosevelt University'sDavid Wolk (Elmwood Park, Ill.).

Gascia, Veltkamp, Hougland and Rossi also earned a spot on the all-conference doubles team as did Cardinal Stritch'sSimon Alig (Thai, Switzerland)andNicola Wehrle (Urnaesch, Switzerland).  Hougland was the only repeat selection among the six.

Veltkamp closed out his first collegiate year by also claiming CCAC Freshman of the Year accolades.  He saw action at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles, going 20-3, while also producing a 19-7 mark at the No. 1 doubles spot.

Veltkamp earned a No. 32 ranking in the nation in singles play with his only conference loss coming to Gascia.

The final honor went to Holy Cross College, which was named the CCAC Champions of Character Team recipient.
