[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis Wraps Up Season on a High Note, With Honors

MONTREAT, N.C. – On the court, the Montreat Cavaliers' women's tennis team showed clear improvement throughout the season, and ended their campaign on a decidedly high note. They took consecutive matches to round out the spring, defeating Wesleyan in Macon, Georgia on April 13 and then defeating Albany State the next day, on April 14.

They were led by Elizabeth Beary (SO/Apopka, FL) at first singles, who won her last two singles matches, as well as her last two doubles matches (along with Hayley Taylor) of the season, in convincing fashion.

Away from the court, the Cavaliers ended the season on just as high of a note as they earned a number of All-AAC honors, with potential team honors still ahead.

Beary captured an AAC Champions of Character Award, and was one of only 10 players in the entire conference to do so. She also earned a spot on the conference's AAC All-Academic team. Senior Taylor Lunsford (who graduated earlier this year after participating in the fall) earned a nod for her academic accomplishments. Junior Hayley Taylor (JR/Marion, NC) was a big part of the team on the court and away from it as she garnered a spot on the All-Academic team along with Emily Wells (SO/Goldsboro, NC).

Wells, in tandem with academic standout and two-sport athlete Katie Dillon (JR/Charlotte, NC), also won three of her last four doubles matches and had a key role in the team's clear and steady ascent through the year. Freshmen Cierra Hunter (FR/Rockwell, NC) and Allison Merrell (FR/Canton, NC) proved match-ready and will be a big part of a team that returns its entire roster from this spring.
