[Men's Tennis] Alonso Tellez Named GSAC Player and Newcomer of the Year

SANTEE, Calif. – SDC junior Alonso Tellez was named Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year announced by the conference over the weekend.

Tellez finished the season 11-2 in his singles matches, including 6-0 in conference. He went 7-2 at No. 1 Singles, 3-0 at No. 2 Singles and 1-0 at No. 3 Singles. In doubles, he and David Samardzija went 7-5 in No. 2 Doubles and 0-1 in No. 1 Doubles. Tellez went 1-0 at No. 3 Doubles with Carl Lindqvist-Nilsson and 0-1 at No. 1 Doubles with Aliaksandr Meliuk.

Tellez was also named to the All-GSAC Team with teammate Aliaksandr Meliuk.

The Hawks look to gain an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament which starts May 15 in Mobile, Alabama.
