[Women's Tennis] Sarah Schaerer Named GSAC Player and Newcomer of the Year

SANTEE, Calif. – San Diego Christian College freshman Sarah Schaerer was named the Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year as well as the Newcomer of the Year announced by the conference over the weekend.

Schaerer helped the Hawks win back-to-back GSAC Tournament on Friday against Westmont winning 5-4. Schaerer won in straight sets in No. 1 Singles against Isabel Lee 6-2, 6-1 after winning in No. 2 Doubles 8-3.

During the season, Schaerer went 11-4 in singles matches, all at No. 1 Singles. She was undefeated in conference play at 6-0. In doubles, Schaerer was 3-1 in No. 1 Doubles and 11-0 in No. 2 Doubles for a 14-1 record.

Schaerer was also named to the All-GSAC Team along with Sarah Urbanek and Aleksandra Emelianova.

Interim head coach Jim Bodor was named the GSAC Coach of the Year voted on by the coaches in the conference.

The Hawks will await their seeding for the NAIA National Tournament starting on May 15 in Mobile, Alabama.
