[Men's Tennis] Tennis Gives Ocean All It Can Handle

The Williamson tennis team had a tall order on their hands on Saturday.  Facing powerhouse Ocean County College on the road, head coach Curtis Schofield was not sure how his team would react.  Ocean had been known to blitz the Mechanics over the years, with Williamson struggling to get a single point against the Vikings. 

When things were all said and done, Williamson left the match on the short end of a 6-3 score but Schofield could not have been prouder of this squad from top to bottom.

"Our kids placed their best match of the year.  Chris Smith (JR/Tullahoma, TN) and John Coleman (JR/Chichester, PA) played the best match of their careers at First Doubles and both guys played great matches against outstanding players, in their individual matches at First and Second Singles."

Down 2-0 heading into Third Doubles, the Williamson pair of Devin Fox (JR/Aston, PA) and Steven Nemeth got Williamson on the board with a win to put them down just 2-1 heading into Singles play.

Though Smith and Coleman would lose hard-fought matches at First and Second Singles respectively, Third Singles player Isaac Eshenour (JR/Shippensburg, PA), who had a great match on Wednesday to lead Williamson to a big win over Bucks, continued his outstanding play, as he won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, to leave Williamson down 4-2. 

Needing to sweep the remaining three contests to win the overall match, Williamson could only get one of them.  Sixth Singles player Isaiah Cohen played his best match to date, as he won 6-0, 6-0 but that was it, as Williamson lost the team score, 6-3.

"Each guy played extremely well today.  It can be intimidating, playing on the road against a team we never beat, but our guys played with heart and gave it all they had.  I'm proud of each of them," closed Schofield.
