[Women's Tennis] Beary Takes First Singles, But Cavs Fall

MONTREAT, N.C. – Finding the silver lining to the Cavs' 8-1 loss to the Milligan Buffaloes on Wednesday was easy as the Cavs' sophomore ace Elizabeth Beary picked up the first conference win of her career.

"The girls played hard today. We had more chances in doubles than in singles, but we put it all out there and lost to a tough team," said head coach Andrew Cobb in assessing the match.

For Beary, the win was especially satisfying as she battled back from dropping the first set to win the next two and capture the match (4-6, 6-4, 6-0) over the Buffs' Lexie Hill. Earlier, along with teammate Hayley Taylor, she'd lost an 8-4 doubles match to the combination of Abigail Allen and Minda Martin.

With the loss, the Cavs dropped to 2-13 overall and 0-4 in the conference while Milligan moved to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in conference. Montreat will return to the court for another conference match on the road at Reinhardt next week.
