[Women's Tennis] Women's Tennis Goes 1-2 in Phoenix Trip

PHOENIX — The SDC women's tennis team went 1-2 in the trip to Phoenix over the weekend.

The matches included some of the best teams in the nation and was a good test for the Hawks.

SDC stayed unbeaten in the GSAC with a 5-4 win over No. 13 Arizona Christian. The Hawks fell to No. 11 LSU Alexandria 5-4 and No. 10 Xavier.

In the 5-4 win over Arizona Christian, rain had a factor in the match. Before the match was postponed until Sunday, the Hawks and Firestorm were tied 3-3 after singles play.

Sarah Schaerer won her No. 1 Singles match 6-1, 6-0. Sarah Urbanek followed suit with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Maria Garduno at No. 2 Singles. Nadine Geschke was the other singles win at No. 4 with a 7-5, 6-1 victory.

Heading into Sunday and to complete the doubles matches, the Firestorm grabbed the fourth point, looking to secure the win with just one more doubles win.

But the Hawks held firm and won the last two doubles matches. Schaerer and Aleksandra Emelianova won No. 2 Doubles 8-3 to tie it 4-4 before Urbanek and Geschke captured the fifth point for the win.

The Hawks are back on the court, weather permitting, on Thursday against Colorado Mesa.
