[Men's Tennis] Cavaliers Defeat Lees-McRae at Home
MONTREAT, N.C. – The Montreat Cavaliers men's tennis team defeated mountain rival Lees-Mcrae 5-4 on Tuesday at Montreat's Patricia Cornwell Tennis Center.
The match started off with the doubles team of Jacob Summerville (SO/Rockmart, GA) and Grayson Chumley falling 8-3 to a good team for the Bobcats in Gabriel Muniz and Sebastian Zuhr. From there Ben Cree and Anh Hoang (JR/Miami, FL) defeated Rusty Batten and Matt Meluch, 8-5, to draw the match even at 1-1 in doubles. At third doubles, Leopoldo Lucero (JR/Quito, Ecuador) and Jackson Plyler defeated Brandon Caldwell and Colton Porter, 8-5, to give the Cavs the all-important 2-1 lead coming out of doubles.
Next, the Cavs' David Garcia (JR/Madrid, Spain) fell to Gabriel Muniz (6-3, 6-3) in first singles. Summerville then dropped a decision to the Bobcats' Sebastian Zuhr (6-1, 6-0). After Lucero fell at third singles (6-3, 6-4) the Cavs trailed 4-2. Jackson Plyler (SO/Weddington, NC) then grabbed the fourth Montreat win at fourth singles and Ben Cree clinched the Montreat victory with a hard-fought 5-7, 6-3, 10-8 win. Prior to his match finishing, Anh Hoang rattled off a 6-3, 6-1 victory and the Cavs won the match, 5-4.
