[Men's Tennis] No. 12 Men's Tennis Wins GSAC Battle over Westmont 5-4
SAN DIEGO — Aliaksandr Meliuk came out of his No. 2 Singles match victorious as the No. 12 Hawks tennis team defeated No. 14 Westmont 5-4 on Saturday.
The Hawks were trailing 2-1 after the doubles matches but were able to win four of the six singles for the win. With the win, SDC improves to 3-2 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in GSAC play. The Warriors fall to 2-5 and 0-2 respectively.
"We knew we'd have a tough battle against a top-15 team in Westmont," head coach Priscilla Jensen said. "Being down 2-1 in doubles, we had to play our singles strong. With four matches going to three sets, the men played with so much heart and hunger and stayed mentally strong to finally clinch it. I'm very proud of them for battling through until the last point."
Meliuk and Innocent Tidimane won at No. 1 Doubles 8-4. The Hawks won singles 1-4 but fell in five and six.
SDC will travel to Phoenix for the next set of matches on March 9 against Ottawa-Arizona.
