[Men's Tennis] No. 12 Men's Tennis Tops Biola 6-3 in Season Opener
SAN DIEGO — Looking to make a strong push for another NAIA Tournament run, the SDC men's tennis team started the 2018 season on the right foot with a 6-3 win over Biola.
"After being down in doubles 2-1, it didn't let it get to us and showed in their singles matches," Head Coach Priscilla Jensen said. "Seeing each one of them fight with heart is what counts and the bonus is the win. For me, it's special to see all the guys wear red headbands to support me for Heart Awareness Month. It was a great win in our season opener."
The Hawks took 5-of-6 singles contests. No. 1 Alonso Tellez defeated Lucas Lee 7-6, 6-3. Aliaksandr Meliuk added a win at No. 2 Singles with a 6-1, 6-0 score. David Samrdzjia won in his Hawks debut. The transfer from Nebraska added a 3-set win, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. Innocent Tidmane and Carl Lindqvist won in 4 and 5 singles.
The Eagles were able to capture two of the three doubles. But Lindqvist-Nilsson and German Ziella added the doubles win with a 8-3 mark of Blair Logan and Joe Turnquist.
SDC will travel to Point Loma on Tuesday in their next match.
