[Women's Tennis] No. 8 Women's Tennis Dominates Biola in Season Opener
SAN DIEGO — After their best season in three years, the SDC women's tennis team looks to get back to Mobile, Ala for the NAIA National Tournament.
The No. 8 Hawks made quick work of Biola beating the Eagles 8-1 Saturday in the season opener.
"I am very pleased with the team pulling off a great winning our season opener," Head Coach Priscilla Jensen said. "For some it was their first collegiate match and learning the ropes of the rules and feeling with its like to play for a collegiate team. Its the unity and positive spirit that they bring to the table that is special about this team."
SDC took all the singles matches. Only one went three sets and that was at No. 5 Singles with Paula Vazquez getting the win. Aleksandra Emelianova won the first singles match, defeating Lauren Lee 6-0, 6-3. Sarah Urbanek defeated Madison Swaney in No. 2 Singles 6-1, 6-1. Sarah Schaerer won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 Singles. Nadine Geschke and Miriam Boeta won their matches as well.
Urbanek and Schaerer swept No. 1 Doubles 8-0. Emelianova and Geschke won the other doubles 8-5 at the second position.
SDC will travel to Point Loma on Wednesday.
