[Men's Tennis] Men's Tennis Falls to Pfeiffer, 5-4

Men's Tennis opened their 2017 fall season auspiciously on Wednesday, even in falling to Pfeiffer University. Montreat dropped their opener to the Falcons 5-4 but head coach Andrew Cobb came away pleased with his team's effort.

"We'll fine tune some things, but it was great preparation for NCAA competition this weekend," said Cobb. The Cavs face three consecutive NCAA opponents (Mars Hill, Lenoir-RhyneGuliford) beginning on Friday, and continuing each day through Sunday.

Montreat (0-1) dropped two of three doubles matches which ultimately proved the winning margin for the Falcons (1-0). The Cavs and Pfeiffer split the six singles competitions.

Leopoldo Lucero claimed a victory at second singles over Pfeiffer's Thomas Hubble, who was forced to retire during the second set due to cramping. Jackson Plyler and Anh Hoang garnered fifth and sixth singles victories, respectively, for the Cavaliers. Lucero and Plyler worked in tandem for Montreat to earn a third doubles victory.

Next: The Cavs host Mars Hill on Friday at 1 p.m.. They then face Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, and conclude with a 1:00 p.m. match at Guilford on Sunday.
