Press release Wednesday 9 December 2020
During lockdowns the officers of the Northumberland County Table Tennis have had monthly meetings to keep clubs in touch.
At the AGM held on 8 September 2020 there was a general discussion about restarting the Nothumbria Table Tennis League. Views were expressed that starting before Christmas could be problematic if local lockdowns were implemented.
By late November 15 clubs registered 45 teams split into four divisions of 10 teams who play each other once, and a fifth division of Cramlington only teams who could play each other twice.
It was hoped that the schedule of games could be accommodated between mid-January and April along with a handicap cup series of games. However, at the committee meeting on 8 December 2020 it was recognised that we could not confirm the mid-January start date due to the November lockdown and the North East region being placed in Tier 3 with no prospect of being lifted in the new year.
The officers of NCTTA will be keeping the situation under regular review and will let everyone know when conditions enable competitive table tennis to restart.
Under the current guidelines we would require the region to be placed within Tier 1 and Table Tennis England to allow league competition to restart. Unfortunately we don’t yet have any dates for either of these requirements.
They will attempt to keep everyone up-to-date with any developments as they occur.
