Ex-NFL player Jordan Shipley in critical condition after ranch fire

Jordan Shipley, a former star University of Texas wide receiver and NFL player, is in critical condition after suffering burns in a fire on his ranch.

Shipley’s family described the incident at the ranch near his hometown Burnet, Texas as “an accident” involving farm equipment in a statement shared by his alma mater’s athletic department.

“The machine he was operating on his ranch caught fire, and although he managed to get out, it was not before sustaining severe burns on his body in the process. He was able to get to one of his workers on the ranch who drove him to a local hospital.

“He was then care-flighted to Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.”

Burnet is roughly 55 miles northwest of Austin.

According to his Instagram page, Jordan is the owner and broker of Shipley Ranches.

Jaxon Shipley, his brother, fellow former Longhorn and co-worker, shared a statement of his own on Instagram.

“Please pray for full healing and no infections or other issues on his road to recovery,” he wrote. “I don’t want to get into all the details other than his life was spared today by the grace of God and the sheer will to live.”

Their father, Bob Shipley, updated on Facebook to say his son is undergoing surgeries to treat his burns.

“The biggest threats at this point seem to be infections and pneumonia,” he wrote.

Shipley, 40, starred for four seasons at Texas as a wide receiver and kick returner, culminating in a trip to the national title game in his senior year, before playing three seasons in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars.
